How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be an expert on how to Burn Bright, not out?

Formally, I have been doing what I do for over two years now.  I qualified as a Coach and an NLP Practitioner in 2017 which is the year in which I launched my business – Odonnata Growth & Transformation Coaching.

Informally, I have worked and studied in the field of personal and professional development for most of my life.  My passion for wanting to help others and make a difference began when I trained to be a lawyer straight out of school and I went on to successfully qualify and practice law for five years.  I soon realised however that this role was not enough to satisfy my desire to help others and make a difference.

My next step was to re-train and qualify as a HR Professional.  This took me closer to fulfilling my passion as I progressed up the HR Career ladder to Senior HR Business Partner.  The elements I most enjoyed in this part of my career were the ones involving training and coaching others on their own development. A ha!  This was where I needed to go!

After six years in generalist HR roles, I moved into Learning & Development 100% and became a Development Consultant.  This gave me the exposure and experience of working with people from all manner of backgrounds and levels within organisations on a variety of Leadership & Management topics, not least of which was coaching.

I decided to train as a Coach because, essentially, that is what I was doing most days with my clients as a consultant yet it felt false as I had no solid coaching credentials (I later realised credibility is one of my values so this makes perfect sense now!).  Through my training, I had the realisation that coaching was the ‘thing’ that would enable me to fulfil my passion.  Except, something had changed.  It was no longer about ME helping others and making a difference FOR them.  What I really love to do is to enable others to HELP THEMSELVES and make a difference FOR THEMSELVES and that is what coaching is all about.

The Burn Bright (not out!) focus came about when I suffered a major burn out in June 2017 which took several months to recover from.  Part of my recovery involved some serious and frank reflection on how I had got there in the first place, research into how to recover from and avoid it happening again in the future and a growing realisation that burn out is all around us.  Everyone I spoke to about my experience, also had a similar experience to share or could recognise that they were on the same path as I had been prior to the burn out.

And so, the Burn Bright Programme was launched which is essentially a culmination of the tools and techniques that helped me to recover from my own burn out.

Through my research around this topic, it dawned on me that my major burn out wasn’t the only burn out I had experienced.  Looking back, I realised that I had effectively burnt out in law, I just didn’t know that’s what was happening.  I had thought at the time I just didn’t have what it took to be a great lawyer.  Maybe if I had known then what I know now, I would never have left the Legal Profession.  But then… I wouldn’t be here talking to you now would I!

Who are your clients exactly?

I work with people just like you, in the Legal Profession (and other professional services) who are really good at what they do, however they have never been taught how to ensure their self-development focus is always in their top three priorities.  

How are you different from other “coaches”?

What makes me different from other coaches is that I have practised law so I understand the realities of my clients’ world, particularly the feeling of being unable to switch off from what can be an all-consuming job and not knowing who to turn to for help.

Because of this, my clients receive proven, extremely specific coaching on exactly what to do in order to Burn Bright, not out.  As a result, my clients take back control of their career and their life!

What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?

The work I do is for people who are absolutely passionate about self-development and progression and ending that constant feeling of going around in circles, not getting anywhere fast because they are ‘too busy’ to focus on themselves.

As someone who has felt like that myself many times in the past, I know and value the huge benefits to be gained from working with someone who shines a light on the way forward and holds me accountable in taking the actions to lead me there.

Consider the work you will do with me to be an action focused programme. It will be more than just the time we spend working together.  It will be about the serious and consistent action you take in between the sessions. It will be about getting out of your own way and learning a new way of thinking with full support while you achieve your goal of THRIVING in your career.

For what type of personality is this programme NOT going to work?

Please know that I’m very selective in who I work with and I cherry-pick my clients, choosing to (gently) turn away people who aren’t suited for my programmes and won’t get the results for which they would have signed up for. (It wouldn’t be fair to them.)

My programmes are NOT for people who are simply wanting to tick a box to say they are working on their self-development and have no real intention of applying themselves to the process.  

They are also NOT for the whiner or the chronic sceptic, as well as individuals who make excuses for not taking the actions in between sessions or challenge every aspect of the programmes.  If you are one of these people, I gently and respectfully ask that you do not call and I hope you understand why.  We’ll probably just not work well together and I wouldn’t want you to waste your time or money.  Is that fair?

What exactly is the Growth & Transformation Programme and what does it include?

This six-month coaching programme is for high achieving individuals who want to move away from daily stress and overwhelm, towards being in control of their direction of travel in their career (and life!).  

On this programme, you and I will work together (via telephone or Zoom), once every four weeks, to move you into a place of thriving rather than barely surviving, reducing the overwhelm you once faced and returning your stress levels back to a ‘healthy’ normal for you.  

Coaching with me enables you to completely press pause on the busyness of your life and turn down the volume of noise in your mind about all the things you are telling yourself you ‘should’ be doing. And, by doing so, you achieve much greater clarity about what is truly important to you and the direction you want to go in with regards to your life, your career/business, your future!

This is the most popular programme I offer and it creates the best results by far, simply because you have more time and specifically tailored support from me.

What exactly is the Burn Bright Programme and what does it include?

The Burn Bright Programme consists of six interactive sessions (lasting 90 minutes each, via telephone or Zoom), where we will explore the Fundamental Principles of how to Burn Bright (not out!). These Principles will enable you to:

  • Raise your awareness of where you are now and where you want to be by finding AND pressing your pause button on the busy-ness of your life. 
  • Gain clarity on what is important to YOU right now rather than what others tell you is important.
  • Explore the choices available to you in order to be and do things differently. 
  • Discover who you really are when you Burn Bright and how being like that more often is totally within your grasp.
  • Decide to say ‘Yes’ to your self-care more often and ‘No’ to demands from others. 
  • Adopt the Magic Penny Principle by taking action every day and make Burn Bright your new Norm.

You will also have the opportunity to be a part of the Burn Bright Community via a closed Facebook Group so your Burn Bright journey does not end when the Programme finishes.

What exactly is the Where’s My Pause Button session and what does it include?

Quite simply, this is a one-off session where you ‘press pause’ and take stock of where you are.

Pressing pause helps you to be you, the real you, the best and Bright version of you.

It only takes around 90 minutes and will be one of the best investments you have ever made in you, your health and your future.

The simple step of taking up to 90 minutes out of the busy-ness of your world (and your mind) will give you the gift of time and space. The time and space needed to remind yourself of what is important to YOU and which direction YOU want to go in.

How quickly can I expect results?

Obviously, this will depend on how much you put into the work we do together. That being said, virtually all clients see results within the first couple of months in the form of a greater awareness of what is truly important to them, the direction they want to take their career in and a sense of regaining control over their stress levels and feelings of overwhelm.

How can I guarantee myself that I will experience a positive change?

Quite simply, do the work.  Be totally focused on the programme (whichever one you choose).  Understand that it is not a ‘quick fix’, it is not magic (although some of my clients have described it as such), it takes time for you to plant all the seeds and for those seeds to grow into the fruit you can enjoy.  All my clients who have applied themselves diligently to the work and the actions have successfully transformed themselves into individuals who are burning brighter than ever before and thriving in their career (and life!).

It is my mission to make BURN BRIGHT the norm (rather than burn out!) and that is where the Burn Bright Book Club comes in.
