Hello fellow Burn Brighters!
I want to share with you something that is going for me this week around the whole idea of ‘I’ll take care of myself when…’
Fil in the blank:
- I’ll take care of myself when… I have completed my to do list!
- I’ll take care of myself when…I have finished this big project!
- I’ll take care of myself when… my inbox is empty!
This old habit of mine was reminded to me recently and I had a bit of a moment where I gave myself a pat on the back because I believed it was something I had stopped doing. I believed that now, I actually put myself first when I need to, all the time!
However, it appears that, in truth, I haven’t.
Let me explain.
Yesterday I was busy creating content for my social media posts and I caught myself saying “I’ll go for a walk when I have finished this.”
Then, after I finished the content creation, I caught myself saying “I’ll go for a walk when I have just checked my emails.”
Hmmmm… not so smug now Donna!
I literally had to say to myself out loud, “Hang on, stop! Get out for a walk now. Stop now. You know you will get more done if you take time to stop and do something that is just for you.”
So, this is why I am sharing this with you. We might think we have this self-care stuff nailed. But old habits die hard as they say, so we need to be aware and catch ourselves in the moment.
We need to press pause and we need to do it regularly.
As Arianna Huffington says:
“We need to change the delusion that we need to burnout in order to succeed. The truth is, we are much more effective if we take time to recharge and refuel.”
